Hi,
after many years I recovered my TP-Link 1043nd (1st generation). It was bricked. Now it is alive on version 12.09-beta2. It is possible and appropriate to upgrade these old version to a newer one?
Thanks for all hints

32MB devices (V1) are no longer supported ;-( You can get something useful out of dd-wrt hopefully.
maybe this will be of use for your 1043v1 Only 32MB of RAM, still works for simple tasks - Community Builds, Projects & Packages - OpenWrt Forum
Thanks for your hints. I know, this old device is not supported anymore. I had hoped to upgrade to the last supported version (22.03.5).
I just want to use this device to extend my wifi to the basement. This works with the old firmware. But because of security concerns I wanted to upgrade ...
It is still a good gigabi% switch with old version...
You may have to higly tweak a customized build in order to make it run. Even so It's not sure that you can include wifi drivers. It's possible but time consuming. Another solution (@brada4) is to recycle it as a switch. I have a couple of these.
I was able to update until 23.3.5. That is ok. It was nice to see the changes from one firmware to another.
Just in case somebody with an old device reads this thread: 23.3.5 was not a good idea. The system run not stable.
Switch to version 19.x, seams to be stable.
That's why I posted above about that specific build
