Upgrade from 14.07

Hi,
I have a TP-Link TL-WDR4300 v1 router that is running 14.07 and for security reasons I want to upgrade this to 23.05.4.

Current version: Model: TP-Link TL-WDR4300 v1
Firmware Version: OpenWrt Barrier Breaker 14.07 / LuCI Trunk (0.12+svn-r10530)
Kernel Version : 3.10.49

My device is on the compatibility list for 23.05.4 and there are sysupgrade and factory images available.

Can someone please advise the best way to update to the latest version? Note: I do not have any additional packages installed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Have you checked out the Device Page?

The safest way to upgrade, especially with such a large difference in versions, would be a fresh installation and then setting it up from scratch.

Back up configuration , there is no migration path past 2 points:
v17x is needed to support next sysupgrade format
then v19x architecture change to ath79, config wiped.
Those both need to be installed 17.x.0 -> 17.x.latest
i.e 5x upgrading still losing config.
You need to type configuration back via luci web.

Thanks everyone. I am quite happy to lose any configuration, as I can reset that manually. Can anyone advise the best way to do a fresh install?

People who don't own the same device are unlikely to know more about it than what's written in the Device Page. You have the info about installation methods there.

Sysupgrade file through webui, reset settings during upgrade.
