Unknown device (169.254..) in (br-lan.3)

Hi folks and happy sunday.
I took a look in Status -> Routing and found this device;
169.254.185.236 - C8:21:58...
I have no clue what this can be, I tried to ping it from Diagnostic but no reply.
Something to worry about?
Br-lan.3 is my home vlan.
Thanks!

That's the IP address of a device that could not get one using DHCP

Thanks, how long will it show in the Routing menu? Until reboot or dhcp lease time ends?

I would surmise if it's still there, until you remove it form your network.

  • The IP may return on reboot - or it may get a lease
  • This part (i.e., there was no lease obtained)

It has this IP adress precisely because it didn't get one from a DHCP server. Hence there is no DHCP lease. Unclipping and recliping the eth cable should force the computer to reload its IP with DHCP. You can also try manualy to reforce DHCP catching (with command lines). Worst case scenario, reboot.

Thanks for all the answers!
I did a reboot. Two things happend;

  1. I could not go to my router.lan any more. Had to go 192.168.1.1. One day later it's ok again. Anyone knows why that happened?
  2. Status -> Routing, a new device with an other mac address 30:05:05.. with ip 169.254.. is in the list. My first thought was that it could be a apple product with changing mac address? I think it's a security choice under Wifi.

Thanks!
