Unable to convert router to switch

I have:

  • r7800 configured as router ( last openwrt upgrade) - 192.168.50.1
  • main router 192.168.1.1

I need to make it a simple switch ( no wifi AP)

What did I already try :

  • in router mode : disconnect wan cable - unmanage both wan interfaces - save and apply - OK
Also disabled dnsmasq and firewall in system startup
LAN interface : DHCP ignore interface - disable three ipv6 settings
Set IPv4 address to 192.168.1.200/24 ( this is out of the range used by main router)
And now when I save these changes ( not applied yet) I get a red cross next to the IP address
When applying it of course does not work

  • I physically rest the router, apply the same procedure ( disconnected from main router) to no avail

I tried those steps multiple times without result.
Would appreciate any help.

(BTW I am not router savvy, just dabbling)

Thanks in advance

André

What's the outcome of "does not work" ?

Clicked the tiny arrow next to save and apply, "apply unchecked" ?

What version are you on anyway, last means 25.10 ?

Technically the switches IP can be completely wrong, it'll move the traffic as expected no matter what.

Thank you for the prompt answer

When I clicked "apply checked", after 90 sec a got a message saying : " failed to.." and reverted changes.

I also tried "apply unchecked", but then could not reach the device any more nor on the old, nor on the new IP

Version is 25.12.5

Have you tried connected to a lan port? If you are using wan port, you should check that in some routers wan and lan are even physically separated, so you have to bridge them to convert wan ports to lan ports.

The IP address should be: 192.168.1.200/24
The Gateway should be set to the main router: 192.168.1.1
The DNS should also be set to the main router: 192.168.1.1

Apply unchecked and after that reboot your PC to get your new IP address

Yes, I used a Lan port to connect to the router. Thanks for the suggestion

Thanks for the suggestion . I already tried so many things I cannot remember if I did what you suggest. I do know that when I enter the LAN IP and save, a small red cross is visible next to the address. I'll tried unchecked and reboot the PC

when i set the custom dns to 192.168.1.1, I get a red cross next to it...

Just reset this router and follow the wiki..

Also, for just a switch you don't need to mess with settings, just don't use wan port
