I see OFCOM in the UK will be shortly allowing more WiFi channels on the 5GHz band - http://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2017/07/ofcom-speeds-uk-wi-fi-networks-adding-5-8ghz-spectrum-band.html.
Will LEDE be updated to allow support for this?

It will find is way into LEDE eventually. It's managed upstream (wireless-regdb).
