Trying to upgrade my HooToo Titan HT-TM05 From OpenWrt 15.05 r47065 to OpenWrt 24.10.1

I have been trying to upgrade my Titan HT-TM05 from an old version of OpenWrt with no joy. I'm sure I will need to go through the hop process (where I do a bunch of upgrades stepping from at least the end of each major version) but not 100% sure of how I need to go about it.

I thought I could just follow the instructions here https://openwrt.org/toh/hootoo/ht-tm05 to upgrade to the latest version. So I get down to the section where it says "Now that there is a release specific for the HT-TM05, this is the method for installing:" and follow those instructions. However, I assumed this was old information and above it when it says "Latest Firmware (21.02.0-22.03.0) (October 2022)" that was just not updated. Because I found version 24.10.1 for the HT-TM05 here https://firmware-selector.openwrt.org/?version=24.10.1&target=ramips%2Fmt7620&id=hootoo_ht-tm05 and I used that. I followed the steps all the way to step 12. However, when I changed my PC back to DHCP there was no DHCP server listening to hand out an IP for me. I then realized version 24 did not have a ROOTFS file to download and I used KERNEL (INITRAMFS) for the "kernel" file and SYSUPGRADE for the "rootfs" file.

Do I need to go download v22.03.0 files somehow? I think I might have bricked my HT-TM05. Before when I went into recovery/upgrade/maintenance/flash mode it would turn the LED blue and now when I try it just stays green and never tries to download from my TFTP server.

Hoping someone can guide me in the right direction. Thanks!

This might be much more involved to resolve, but there is a possible quick fix...

Did you keep settings through the upgrade? If so, that will absolutely soft-brick your device, but fixing it is simple... use Failsafe mode and then reset to defaults.

I don't think there is a choice to keep settings when using the TFTP method. I think the only place I seen that option was trying to upgrade the firmware via the webUI (which it would not let me do to firmware mismatch [to new of a version] etc).

But I did try to get that failsafe mode to work and it does not seem like that's possible. It just boots and stays on the green LED now. Setting my PC to 192.168.1.10/24 and trying to ping 192.168.1.1 gets no reply.

Ah... since you used the tftp method, you are correct that your settings would not be retained (and there is indeed no option).

I would see if you can get the tftp method to work with the 21.02 images as described in the device wiki entry. If not, you will probably need serial and the debricking method.

How do you use the "serial" method on the HT-TM05? There can you use some type of serial to usb method?
