I have a Linksys WRT3200ACM functioning as a main router (running OpenWrt 19.07.7). I connected it to a Netgear WNDR3700v4 (also running OpenWrt 19.07.7), which has functioned as a "dumb" AP. I have three wifi networks that are connected between the routers via vlans (main, guest, and IoT). The Netgear router has slowly started to die, and I bought a Dynalink DL-WRX36, hoping to replace it. I flashed it successfully, but I'm having trouble navigating through how to set up the networks and vlans in the newer (23.05.2) version of OpenWrt.
Most noteably, the "Switch" menu is no longer available, where much of the vlan configuration previously took place. I know there is "Bridge VLAN filtering" under interfaces, but I have not been able to get it to function properly.
My first question is - can I use the Dynalink running 23.05.2 as a "dumb" AP with the WRT3200ACM still running 19.07.7?
If I can, any help regarding the setup would be incredibly appreciated!
19.07.x is is EOL for over two years now, it does contain unfixed security issues and mustn't be used anymore - even less exposed to the open internet, on your border gateway.
Both of your older routers can be upgraded to 23.05.2, without any loss of functionality, so please do that first. The WRT3200ACM will be migrated to DSA as part of that, the WNDR3700v4 will remain on swconfig for now.
The DL-WRX36 does not use DSA (although it may appears as such), it can be configured as dumb AP - if that makes sense not use it as router is another question.
It should be noted that all versions of OpenWrt meet the same IEEE802.1 q standard for VLAN signals on an Ethernet cable. You can interconnect different vendors, OS types, and OpenWrt versions in your equipment and it will still work.
