TP-Link ER701-5G-OUTDOOR

Hi - I've seen a lot of TP-Link devices seem to support OpenWrt, would I be able to install it on the ER701-5G-OUTDOOR router?

currently no, in the future, who knows.

I've seen on the TP-Link Nordic website they have the GPL download for the firmware. Looking at the files it seems to suggest the ER701's firmware is based on OpenWrt.

They give instructions on how to compile a custom firmware in the 'README' file, I don't really know enough about it at the moment but it seems to suggest it will build a custom OpenWrt firmware for the device.

I'm assuming it can't be that straight forward and would probably have lots of missing features.

unsupportable devices run OpenWRT too.
you should start by figuring out the hw inside, the SDK could be of help here.

you could check the bottom sticker for a FCC ID, we could use it to see if the device photos have been published at various FCC sites.

No luck finding an FCC ID, I looked through the config files contained in the GPL download and the modem is a Fibocom FG370.

Unless the owner open this device nobody knows.

serial is needed

I've opened it up, the modem is the Fibocom FG370-EAU which uses the MediaTek T830 chipset.

Photos and serial output needed

I can get photos next time I take the device down (it's currently installed high up outside). I've attached the one I took of the modem, but you can't really see much else.

The current firmware for the device is lacking features which I think OpenWrt would provide, like better signal metric details, cell locking to name a couple.

There is also a GPL download for the device on the Nordic TP-Link website ER701 GPL which seems to suggest the firmware is based on OpenWrt.

Is there anyway I can find out if OpenWrt would work on this device??
