TP-Link EAP-245 - OpenWrt or not?

Hi everybody,

Tempted to swap the factory firmware for OpenWRT, for a few reasons:

  1. because I can!
  2. I find the range of the device a bit.. short. Silly question will OpenWRT give me more power on the signal ie a higher TX option?
  3. Is there an actual benefit to move, as well, it works fine as is

Thanks!

I don't believe it'll increase your tx power. The open source drivers are often slower than vendor proprietary drivers too.

The wiki page for your device describes how to revert back to stock firmware after flashing openwrt. You could try openwrt out and if you don't like it, you can revert back to stock again.

Openwrt offers more flexibility and a richer feature set than stock firmware.

Ok thanks, based on that I'll stick with vendor firmware, thanks!
