Hi,
About 6 months ago, I installed OpenWRT on a TP-LINK AX1800 (Archer AX23) v1.2 and after a few tests in the buildings, the mesh was working and everything went well. After the testing period, I decided to buy 10 of those TP-LINK routers and I have received the same router but with the v2.0 hardware so it doesn't work anymore. I'm hugely disappointed by the situation of course, especially by learning the hardware was scaled down of the v2.0 version of the device (256Mb of RAM instead of 512Mb).
As I read in the forums, it seems that there won't be a solution for these routers so I have two questions:
- Will there be some technical solution to install and use OpenWRT on the v2.0 version as efficiently as with the hardware v1.2 in the coming weeks? I'm supposed to set three buildings with a working mesh WiFi network over the summer school holidays.
- If you guys really believe I'm wasting my time with these devices, could I have some advice on what hardware to buy to make sure this will run on OpenWRT and will keep doing so for a long time? I don't know much about routers hardware and any buying advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking for something very similar to the AX23 as everything was working well with the hardware v1.2.
If there are no chances to make this hardware work in the next few months, I will send those routers back and buy new ones and if it is the case I'm looking for a strong hardware choice that won't be a show stopper down the line (for instance, I exclusively buy AMD hardware so it runs flawlessly on Linux).
Many thanks for your time and help,
Laurent Humblet
