I own a TP-Link Archer C6 v2 (EU) running OpenWrt 23.05.5 r24106-10cc5fcd00 / LuCI openwrt-23.05 branch git-24.264.56413-c7a3562.
Recently, my ISP changed my fiber optic subscription speeds from 300/30Mbps (download/upload) to 600/100Mbps (download/upload).
Before the change I would get these approximate download/upload 250/30Mbps speeds when speedtesting using my iPhone 11 Pro on 5Ghz Wifi. After the change I'm seeing around 250/100Mbps download/upload speeds on 5Ghz Wifi. However, when conducting a speedtest using a computer connected to the router with an ethernet cable I'm getting around 600/100Mbps (download/upload).
Is there a way to get higher Wifi download speeds with this router?
I enabled WMM mode for both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz Wifi networks, but maybe there is other settings that are limiting my Wifi download speeds.
you can absolutely achieve 500Mbps on 802.11 AC with 80MHz channel width, but TP-Link Archer C6v2 is based on QCA9563 which is a single core mips cpu.
This device running without Qualcomm's proprietary wifi offloading simply doesn't have enough processing power - on this device I have seen at most 270Mbps.
I have seen 500Mbps with 802.11ac on devices having MT7621 or IPQ4019 SoC.
The quick sanity checks are 5 GHz only, 80 MHz channel width, good RSSI/no busy channel, and that the client is actually connected with 2 spatial streams. But if Ethernet gives 600/100 and Wi-Fi sits around 250–270, I would not spend too much time hunting for a magic LuCI setting on this model. For a 600 Mbit subscription, a separate AP or newer router with a stronger SoC/radio is the realistic fix; keep the C6 as router only if it handles your wired speed and features well.
…nor an iPhone 11 Pro (2x2), at least not while using an(y) AC router/ AP. With an AX router/ AP probably, but that's pretty close to the maximum for HE80 there as well.
