Thomann Swissonic Professional Router 2 MKII is a TOTOLINK X5000R

Wanted to report a new and very exotic Router model to the OpenWrt compatible list.

Bought this Swissonic real 19" Rack mount LAN+WiFi-6 Router from Thomann, intended as a Stage-Router for concert and Music events to be mounted into a portable 19inch Rack case on Tour, making use of the well-known Pro-grade RJ45 EtherCon Serie from Neutrik NE8 MX 6-B and Neutrik NE8 FDX-P6-B dustproof connection.

Thomann Web-page: https://www.thomann.de/gb/swissonic_professional_router_2_mkii.htm?shp=eyJjb3VudHJ5IjoiZ2IiLCJjdXJyZW5jeSI6NCwibGFuZ3VhZ2UiOjJ9&reload=1

This router branded by Thomann and called Swissonic Professional Router 2 MKII without any information about what hardware is actually used, the manual is poor as well.

Now to cut things short, the Thomann branded router got a very poor user interface to set up any Net or WiFi connections, just the bare bone needed option to make use of WiFi and Lan fast but ne extensive option to do what the build in router is actually capable of.

Opening the case to have a look at the router's mainboard for identification of a model number was without luck... but found some matching images in OpenWrt Supported devices that opened all the possibilities I was hoping for.
Now the Swissonic Professional Router 2 MKII internal Router is actually a well known TOTOLINK X5000R Wi-Fi-Router !

  1. Mainboard 100% match - https://openwrt.org/toh/totolink/x5000r
  2. Graphical user interface like the X5000R match 99% (only the Logo is different)
  3. Firmware: Swissonic Professional Router 2 MKII - Swissonic_Firmware V9.1.0cu.2243_B20220909 - 2022-9-09
  4. Firmware: TOTOLINK X5000R Wi-Fi-Router - X5000R_Firmware V9.1.0cu.2089_B20211224 - 2022-4-12
  5. OpenWrt Firmware V22.03.3 B20230109 - 2023-5-01 supporting TOTOLINK X5000R

Most helpful installation recommendation: TOTOLINK X5000R installation fail for new vendor firmware

Based on this Infos I managed to Flash the Firmware right away from the Vendor's V9.1.0cu.2243_B20220909 - 2022-9-09 to a fully working OpenWrt Firmware V22.03.3 B20230109 - 2023-5-01, by only going into the Routers firmware recovery mode as described in the above Forums Link, flashing the FW with full success 1st time without the need to return to the original TOTOLINK FW at all.

My Thomann Swissonic Professional Router 2 MKII now officially running OpenWrt Firmware V22.03.3 B20230109 - 2023-5-01 in all it's glory!

From OpenWrt System Status after flashing:
Hostname: OpenWrt
Model: TOTOLINK X5000R
Architecture: MediaTek MT7621 ver:1 eco:3
Target Platform: ramips/mt7621
Firmware Version: OpenWrt 22.03.3 r20028-43d71ad93e / LuCI openwrt-22.03 branch git-22.361.69894-438c598
Kernel Version: 5.10.161

Question:
Would it be possible to add the Thomann Swissonic Professional Router 2 MKII and it's supported infos to the OpenWrt list of "Table of Hardware" like as a new Supported SUB-Versions for TOTOLINK X5000R Wi-Fi-6 Router ?

Picture of the mainboard:

OMG, it is exactly the same as my X5000R.

Question:
So basically, when you open up the top cover, you only see this? Is it?
I don't get it, I can see LAN1 & LAN2 but how is it LAN3 LAN4 & WAN
ports are missing?

Check the photos, two ports are rewired to the front.

I was wondering the same

Y̶u̶p̶ ̶t̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶i̶s̶ ̶c̶o̶r̶r̶e̶c̶t̶.̶ ̶

L̶e̶t̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶O̶P̶ ̶h̶a̶v̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶t̶i̶m̶e̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶a̶n̶s̶w̶e̶r̶ ̶i̶t̶.̶ ̶

My bad, I am wrong. If you click on the sliding thumbnail, LAN3, LAN4 & WAN ports are located at the back of the case.

P.S: To be honest, I got a shock when I saw the picture. If this router is selling for 169 pounds in the UK, and you are only getting the exact X5000R and nothing more than
that, except it comes the 1U rack mount casing.

With this money of buying a 1U rack mount case, + 1 unit of X5000R + 4 dual band antennas, + a built-in internal power supply, after doing the currency conversion,
I am able to 4-5 units of X5000R :grinning: in my country.

Well yes indeed, regarding what it is a bit shocking, compare to a box standard X5000R (€34 quit plastic box) the Swissonic 1U rack unit is overpriced, no doubt....
But at least the X5000R main board is sort of recent technic for the task, plus it got all the Neutrik connection and in a rugged Rack mount case which integrating nicely with a Pro Audio Rack-setup...

Yes it's correct Lan1, Lan2 is rewired to the front to a Neutrik RJ45 socket, as well as the rerouted LED panel and Lan3, Lan4 & WAN is left as it is on the backside as it is configured on the board which allowing to connect to a Rack switch internally of the Rack case.

The prize is steep for what it is on the inside, and someone would expect something way more than the poor Firmware that is supplied with the unit by standard.
Therefore, well at least, it's a great surprise and satisfaction that OpenWrt can be used to flash and extend the ability of it in a painless manner in a few minutes... by the way the new OpenWrt 22.03.4 release working just as nice too now with a minimum on effort to do the update. Compare to the Thomann factory FW witch would not be getting any FW updates at all...
Yeah the Swissonic coming in fancy case, poor FW, but with a welcome hidden treasure to be able to change over to OpenWrt on the inside, I'm not regretting the move over to OpenWrt, sort of makes it a treat after all.

And that's how it is wired up to the rest of the kit in my rack case, rerouted the WAN, Lan3 & Lan4 to the outside in conjuction with a TP-Link ER605 Router, Omada controller OC200 and matching switch POE SG2210P as well as a couple POE AP-EAP653 Wifi Access points, and a VoIP DECT box.
