The OpenWrt Firmware Selector

Let's look at a situation that happened to me. I installed a snapshot previously created using attendedsysupgrade. To install a new package, do I need to update it to the latest version? Right? I tried to do this using the same tool, but it failed. I see that the failure was due to syslog-ng, but this was working and available some time ago, right? I reported a build issue, as requested by the build site, with a full error log in the thread they redirected me to via the link they provided. But as it turns out, this wasn't a bug, but my responsibility. For example, I've already reported several times that this also happens with the bridger package. The build site complains about it and doesn't create a firmware image. I immediately remove it from the list, and the firmware image is built. I install the firmware image and immediately install the bridger package manually. It installs and runs without any errors. That's how it works. The issue isn't that this happened specifically with syslog-ng, but it also happens periodically with bridger, which isn't going anywhere and is mentioned as recommended and even necessary on many WIKI pages...

And downloads.openwr.org doesn't open at the link you provided. It's also possible it's temporary, or perhaps you made a mistake and provided the wrong link? Or perhaps you deliberately misled me and sent me looking for a black cat in a dark room, knowing full well there wasn't one there))).

EDIT: Now started working..

Yeah, the leaf directories come and go, so it's best to start at the top level one which is a permanent directory, then search down. For 24.10, you'd start at https://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/faillogs-24.10/, then pick your arch and on down from there.

Actually, I thought I was sending you in search of a polar bear in a blizzard.

Yeah, that's the rolling package builds: OpenWrt 24.10.3 - Service Release - #74 by efahl

This isn't the issue with this discussion. For some reason, it's not in the list of available packages. Build without it, then install it when it appears.

Code 8 : Server issued an error response.

Could be you are having network issues, or could be that you attempted to build during [RESOLVED] Downtime of main download server. Try again...

It’s the weekend again, so Firmware Selector is broken again.

Whats wrong with weekends?

I would rather ask "What is wrong with the Firmware Selector?"

EDIT: Works fine already.

There’s an error for several days now, anyone knows anything about this? (occurring for both AX59U and MR5500 on SNAPSHOT)

I suspect it's a follow-on from the ongoing cmake issues: https://github.com/openwrt/packages/issues/27607 I'm currently seeing about 200 package build failures on snapshot...

Things like collectd depend on packages that use cmake to build and even though the base package is ok, they can't build without those dependencies.

@efahl Thanks for showing me what to look for, but I’ve been told the problem is not caused by the cmake 4.x issues… I still can’t build anything that includes the luci-app-statistics package, which has the collectd dependency. Any ideas?

Yeah, it is. The plugins for collectd are built as part of the base package. Some of the plugins like mosquitto use cmake, so if the build of mosquitto is broken, then so is the base package build. When that gets fixed, then collectd will build again. You can determine this by simply chasing through the faillogs.

There are always exactly two options:

  1. Fix it and submit a PR.
  2. Wait for someone else to fix it.

Looks like this issue has been resolved, at least owut upgrade worked for my BTHH5 and BPI-R4.

Thanks @alistair

Couldn’t add luci to the snapshot build today (r32284-4e4986aaf6)

Yeah, libubox is out of sync on a bunch of platforms right now (also libblobmsg-json and a couple others I saw). Wait a day, the new versions should be built then...

Error selecting this router model. If you select English as the site language, you can sometimes get a file list without an error, but if you select Russian, the error occurs 100% of the time.

Yes, I confirm the issue. Interestingly, this occurs mostly on https://openwrt.github.io/firmware-selector-openwrt-org/ but not so often on https://firmware-selector.openwrt.org/

So I’ve been using the latter.
