Sysupgraded Comfast CF-EW72 and can't login

I last used OpenWRT 18 or so years ago. I have an older COMFAST CF-EW72 and I installed OpenWRT via a sysupgrade based on these instructions

Everything appeared to go fine and after the upgrade my browser refreshed and I see the new OpenWRT login screen. Prior to the upgrade I factory reset the unit and was able to connect and login using the default values printed on the unit label: 192.168.10.1, admin/admin
Although the stock FW doesn't present a username field, only a password field.

OK, so after the update I now see the OpenWRT login screen and none of the credentials I can think to try are working:

  • root/[blank]
  • admin/[blank]
  • root/admin
  • admin/admin

I've tried a private browser window to avoid cookie related issues. I've searched the web for help but not finding anything useful.
Does anyone have any ideas for me?

I have the patience of a 2 year old; used failsafe mode and reset the root password. Worked excellent and I'm a novice so surprised I didn't eff it up! LOL

Good work OpenWRT team, the process worked perfectly!
