I have 25.12.5 running on an AR750S Slate. I'm having issues with changing the AP I'm using in Repeater mode. I setup TravelMate since I'm told it's a good way to manage this.
So I setup one AP on radio0 using the scan function in TravelMate. Initially I had to reboot to get it working. Then I setup the other AP on radio1 since that one is 2.4G and has a better range to the this particular AP. I eventually got that one working by turning off the connection in TravelMate.
Now that I know the configurations work, I'm trying to figure out the correct way to switch between them. In TravelMate I've tried just clicking "On" for one AP and clicking "Off" on the other AP. I then click apply and save. I wait a few minutes and check the overview status and see that it's still working on the AP that I've turned "off" in TravelMate. When I check the Wireless page I see that the connection for these 2 APs do not reflect what is reported on TravelMate. I have to enable the one I want and disable the one I don't want. If I wait a few minutes I see on the Status Overview that the connection has changes.
Is this expected behavior? Or do I leave them both on in TravelMate and just change the one I want on the Wireless page?
This is EOL and unsupported now. It has many security vulnerabilities and you should upgrade immediately to a supported release (25.12).
It sounds like this is actually a question for the Travlemate support thread. Would you like me to move this post there?
Also, FWIW, I think you mean that you want to switch between two different radios since you're referring to switching between 2.4G and 5G radios (being used in STA/client mode).
Thanks for the corrections. I've update the original post. Ideally, I'd think I'd want radio0 (5G) as the repeater connection due to the speed. But in my test when I scanned radio0 I only found one of the APs. I'm really trying to learn about how this all works. I'm using the 2 APs to test the case of switching locations like coffee shop to hotel. Of course in that case the AP would not be in range when you relocated.
If you think this post should be moved that's okay with me.
I would not use the different radios as the mechanism by which you change the upstream connection.
Right... so again, no real need to use different radios for this purpose.
Travelmate is specifically designed to handle this use case. You set the connection order (priority) and it will work through the list. On a device with 2 radios, you can keep your 2.4G radio as an AP-mode only setup and your 5G radio can be AP + STA.
So, based on that, is the original post (trying to change which radio is being used in STA mode) still an issue you'd like to chase down (in which case moving this discussion to the travelmate support thread would be the most logical option), or does my advice provide you with an acceptable path forward (no worries if not, of course).
So I've had some luck. I deleted the entry in TravelMate for my radio1. Then I moved a laptop to a location where I could use the AR750 on radio0. I then did a scan on radio 0 and added a uplink for the other AP. I then killed the power on the currently connected router. It took a minute but it switched over to the other AP without doing any clicking. So I think it's working as I needed. I can just add new AP as I move around and leave the others still in the list of AP. I'll work through the prior setup.
