I wonder if suricata support is now inbuilt in OpenWrt or does one has to install it separately?

You have to install it.

It's very safe to assume that Suricata will never be preinstalled by default.

EDIT: it's just too large, way to CPU-/ RAM intensive -and utterly useless, without a rather bespoke configuration- to work on most plastic routers, including rather high-end ones.
