Supporting tp-link archer x12

Hello,
Just installed tp-link Archer x12 in the office. Is there any plans to support it? Perhaps, we can use the version from archer x23? Is it possible?

X12 = AX12 ?

AX12 appears to be Realtek, that's not even the same galaxy as the AX23.

Would anyone like me to test whether or not OpenWrt would run on this device?

I am happy to give it a go, but I would need some guidance on what to do next.

The unit I have is labeled...

  • Model: Archer AX12(EU) Ver 1.0
  • AX1500 Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Router

I also purchased an AX23. Installation on that was smooth.

  • Downloaded the file labeled Factory image on the device page
  • Changed the name of the file to match TP-Link's latest official firmware file name.
  • Ran the update using the TP-Link OEM web UI.

I tried those exact same steps on the AX12, but it did not work.

After pushing "Update", the web UI says "Uploading", then "Upload error."

Only if soldering, USB TTL, and in worst case, flash writer recoveries, are big turn ons for you.

If they're not, read TP-Link TL-WA1201 v2 firmware on TP-Link TL-WA1801 v1 - #2 by slh

Yikes! Never mind

I was hoping/believing the process would be more like:

  1. Load a fallback/safe/generic image via TFTP from Bootloader
  2. Check dmesg to confirm what hardware is inside.

We did say the AX12 and AX23 weren't event remotely identical ...
