Supporting new Keenetic Speedster KN-3012 (different from old KN-3010)

Hello everyone.

Before asking any questions, I want to say that I am sorry for my BAD English. I am not a native speaker and seek some help and guidance.

The main question is whether the OpenWRT version for the old version of Keenetic Speedster (KN-3010) is compatible with the new model (KN-3012)?

A less important question: how NOT to turn my router into a brick ? Maybe there is a way to copy the bios or how else it can be called before experimenting with main source of the internet?

To make the topic a little bit spicy, I will mention that I am from Russia and we have some problems with YouTube. Instead of blocking it completely, ONE government structure decided to make the speed of YouTube unbearable. Even 140p quality may not load.

There are simpler fixes for this issue, but I want to do something with my router to keep my TV useful.

I would appreciate any help and guidance.

probably not.

currently, you don't even know if they share the same hw/arch.

Could you examine OEM boot log for amount of memory, cpu architecture, and mtd partition space, as well as wifi drivers. Even same mainboard layout may have pin-compatible 1 generation newer wifi, half or double ram or flash.

  • EcoNet EN7561DU SoC: RAM: DDR3 128 MB
  • cpu architecture - EN7561DU 900 MHz, 2 cores
  • 14 ndmpart partitions found on MTD device EN75XX-SPI_NAND
  • tun: Universal TUN/TAP device driver, 1.6
  • OS version - 4.1.7

I am actually not sure if I found the right info per your request

  • Wifi Driver : Realtek 8822CE Wireless LAN 802.11ac PCI-E NIC

is a dead end, AFAIK.

I am still thankful for your attention and effort with this

In the most optimistic case upstreaming SoC support to OpenWRT will take couple of years.
Thanks for documenting HW if anyone looks for it.
