Support for Xiaomi Router BE3600

Hello,
I would like to know if there is any possibility of getting OpenWrt support for: Xiaomi Router BE3600 EU version, page link below:

Or maybe Xiaomi Router BE5000 CHINESE VERSION

Or Xiaomi Router BE3600 Pro CHINESE VERSION

Thanks

You've obviously already tried the looking glass in the upper right corner ?

@frollic I checked and found some year old posts. I was wondering if something changed recently.
Could you maybe confirm and if they can't be supported ever, then what similar price range wifi 7 devices will be supported?
Thanks in advance.

ipq53xx isn't supported AFAIK, and 256MB is still a dead end.

@frollic
Please check above links for be3600 pro with 512 memory and qualcomm processor.
And be5000 with 512 memory and dual core cpu but vendor not specified.

Which one will have more chances in future?

And if in future there is any OpenWrt release for them then will they be possible to be installed in chinese variant?

Could you also tell any drawback for these chinese variant?

Thanks in advance.

You will have to wait until these -or other- devices are actually supported by OpenWrt and pick among those. Everything else is a recipe for frustration and disaster.

ipq95xx support is in its infancy, ipq53xx support depends on that to work first (as it's a stripped down close derivative of the former) - and no one has even started working on it (so the old threads are still fully up to date, there is nothing to report, at all). If it will ever be supported is unclear, there is no time frame either - even if someone would start on it tomorrow, it would take months++ (easily into the double digits) before there would be merged anything usable (and no predictions about which exact devices, at all).

Currently OpenWrt supports quite a selection of 802.11ax/ wifi 6 devices to choose from, ranging from cheap to expensive, pick one of the known-working ones (filogic 830/ 820, ipq807x, ipq60xx, ipq50xx, in that order). Everything else would be a poker game with the odds stacked against you, unless you'd be the one actually doing hands-in development.

Thanks for the replies. I found Mercusys MR47BE which seems to have 1G memory and Qualcomm IPQ9554 processor. This is double the cost of my previous choice but hope this will have more chances to get OpenWrt in future. Also this one has 6gz band as well.

If you're looking for highest/soonest chances of getting BE support, look for MediaTek based devices.

@frollic thanks for your suggestion. I tried to find any with MediaTek but couldn't find any. Could you please suggest any in medium price range if you have in mind?

What's wrong with the dozens of 802.11ax/ wifi6 devices that are fully supported right now™?

Nothing wrong, I just want to purchase one device for long term. I currently have tplink wifi 5, and as Wifi 7 with 6ghz is the latest technology so want to upgrade to that for long term utilization.
I could find Mercusys MR47BE, although double than my price range but it meets latest specifications and as per specs of 1G memory and Qualcomm IPQ9554 processor it has chances of getting OpenWrt in future.

Which is not supported and won't be anytime soon.

This is becoming more complex, there's three models of the Xiaomi BE3600
Chinese RD15 256MB RAM, 2.5G WAN, 3 x Gigabit LAN
Chinese RD16 512MB RAM, 1G WAN, 3 x Gigabit LAN
Global RN06 256MB RAM, 2.5G WAN, 3 x Gigabit LAN

The Chinese RD15 can be flashed with the Global RN06 firmware, so as far as seen they are the same model, just different RX and TX power levels and strength.

All three are based on a QSDK Openwrt fork of 18.06 32bit build.

Root access of the model is possible using xmir patcher, although the best we can hope for until ipq53xx is merged is a clean QSDK build of:

QSDK is now only offering an Openwrt 24.10 fork, and a choice of 32 bit and 64 bit builds.
If anyone has serial access, if we can get an initramfs build going to debug further

@hecatae Thanks for your response. Which one from above 3 Xiaomi and Mercusys MR47BE can have more chances of having support? I can get that and definitely support in any kind of testing etc.
What tool will be required to perform xmir patch and get serial console access?

if you really want to buy something now (it's a bad idea), the Mercusys.

xmir patcher is the tool.

Why are you comparing a be9300 device to a be3600?

The cheapest be9300 you can get your hands on at present is the tplink festa f76.

What's your use case?

The zyxel t56, flint 2 and mercusys mr90x completely outclass this little be3600, and those three devices are fully supported right now.

I'm getting similar speeds from this be3600 to the GL marble ax3000.

@hecatae I'm not comparing, I understand the technical and price difference between them.

I just want a wifi 7 device for home as cheap as possible but it should have chances of supporting OpenWrt in future(as I know currently none is supported) and have good quality.

I couldn't find any info about devices which will be supported. I asked here and as per the suggestions above I'm trying to decide which one should I buy.

I'm told that best option is to get mediatek device but I couldn't find any in my price range. Next best option is of qualcomm but with higher memory of atleast 512mb or 1g.

My first choice is xiaomi ones because they are cheaper wifi 7. But I can manage for mercusys one also, although it is double the price of be3600 but it has 6ghz band 1g memory.

Just to add if by RD16 you mean Xiaomi be5000 then it has 1 2.5g port for wan, not 1g you mentioned above. This one also I'm getting for good price but from China.

Devices you mentioned are wifi 6. I'm more interested in wifi 7 device for longer time use.

Could you please suggest what can be best choice for wifi 7? Out of 4 mentioned here or any other in similar price ranges which has more chances of getting OpenWrt support in future.

Thanks in advance.

What you consistently ignore, is that we aren't at a point where we could recommend any 802.11BE/ wifi 7 device, yet. Neither do we know if ipq957x is viable (it's source-only so far and only a playground for developers), nor is there any supported device at this point - you could just as well ask us about the 'best' coffee maker.

So whatever wifi 7 device you go with, will be explicitly against our recommendations, as none of them are supported yet - and everything else is way too early to tell. And even in the best of all case, it will take well over a year before we might talk about OpenWrt support, if at all.

The BE5000 is not the RD16

If you want WiFi 7 now, go pick up the Asus Zenwifi BT8

@hecatae BT8 is too expensive for my use. To compare xiaomi be3600 will cost me ~200 zł , be3600 pro around 250 zł and Mercusys about 480 zł. Max I can go is 600 zł and BT8 is 2300 zł.
So please suggest accordingly.

And are you sure for xiaomi be3600 and be3600 pro chienese version it is possible to install Global firmware?

@slh I totally understand that it is not possible to surely confirm today that what will be supported what not.

From your all great experiences I am just looking for device on which I can put best bet. I need to get one soon and I'm ok taking chances.

Wifi 6 is my last option as I already have wifi 5, so there is not much point in upgrading.

So you also please suggest accordingly.

Based on your valuable suggestions I will decide.

Thanks for your patience and suggestions.
