Support for Victure WR1200 (AC1200)

No that looks like contact points for some physical connector, like the RJ-45 jacks and the barrel jack on the same side.

This looks more like it - they seem to be labeled Tx / Rx / GND even (no VCC but usually you don't connect that).

Thanks. Sadly it's under the heat sink plate. I'm not sure if i can remove it and reattach later. But maybe it's possible to solder in from the other side. I ordered TTL module / cable and I have pin connectors so I guess we will find out if it works later.
I wish there was an easier way to test firmware safely or at least with some simple recovery option without serial port :frowning:

This is a vendor / manufacturer decision. UBoot supports remote network consoles however basically no manufacturer includes that support in their uboot builds.

If you build mainline uboot for your device you can include the remote console.

It appears Victure has released new firmware for this device.

Alas, it seemingly won't download the update and reports an error in classic Chinglish.

Screenshot 2022-02-05 at 5.49.04 pm

I think they didn't. The default firmware in this router requests upgrade information from this link "http://router.lb-link.cn/image/7621AC6_16M_128M/WR1200/70003128/upgrade.txt" (timeout)
It looks like the router is trying to check if there are available updates but can't.

https://www.lb-link.cn/download-detail.php?DId=49 - this could be the page with firmware updates (W1200, updated in 2017)
It's weird that there is no firmware or software support page on Victure website. I don't think that we should expect anything from them

Still waiting for TTL adapter. Hopefully will arrive in a week or so.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I just hadn't seen the Update button before in the the web control panel.

For what it's worth, I tried contacting Victure direct via email to ask about updates. To paraphrase, their reply was "nothing is broken so why would you do that?" I mentioned the security vulnerabilities and never got a reply.

I've been using the router now for a week or two as the main device in our household. A few days ago I had a worrying disconnect problem, where the router appeared to go offline although the LEDs on the front were still flashing. But the SSIDs could no longer be seen. Restarting it seemed to have fixed things.

I think Victure is a reseller who got a good deal on router boards and cases that they rebranded. Their website sells a hodgepodge of goods - they are not router specialists. None of the 5 networking products they sell have firmware upgrades.

I have a Victure RX1800 WiFi 6 Router It looks like it has the same specs. I'm following your progress on this.

Did anybody ever make progress with this?

I ask because we've been using the WR1200 for some time and it's pretty crap.

The 2.4GHz WiFi channel sometimes becomes unreliable – slow speed, timeouts. Meanwhile, 5GHz seems fine.

Rebooting the router fixes this but it's not ideal. Before I go out and buy a better brand, it'd be awesome if I could fix this with a newer version of OpenWRT.

Well, I was preparing to test the firmware using TTL right before the war broke out in the country. Even found a way to safely access pins. I'm not sure when I will be able to resume the work on this. Maybe someone will try to make it work before I can.

Sorry to hear this. Stay safe and good luck!

I resumed the work on this. Successfully tested the build via TFTP (initramfs-kernel). Everything is working except WPS and 5G WIFI LED.
WPS is not working probably because of missing packages. I didn't really dig into it. Never used WPS option in my life
And about 5G LED I'm not sure. I'm missing something here. I tried to add "wlan5g" LED without much success. I also don't know how to retrieve GPIO information from source firmware (typical gpio paths are not available).

I tried to flash sysupgrade through stock firmware interface. Serial console showed MD5 mismatch.
And if flashed via u-boot then serial console is showing this:

Image1 rootfs Checksum --> Invalid image Failed

Does anyone know what is causing this? Could this be some kind of firmware lock?

By the way, this is full version of original kernel log (from bootloader).
I noticed the unusual partitions layout in stock firmware. Maybe this is what I messed up with (like ignoring most of these partitions).

I compiled a new Uboot for this device from the v2022.10-rc1 release candidate and installed it. Then I installed my own port of openwrt on the device. It works now somewhat. The only thing I could use some help with is the bootcmd. I'm using mtd read and bootm at the moment. If somebody needs it I can upload the .config of Uboot I used.

It will be nice if you upload u-boot .config
I could test it with my build later. And I'm sure it will be useful for anyone else who wants to flash openwrt onto this device.

By the way, is 5G LED working on your version of openwrt? I wasn't able to make it work back when I tested openwrt build.

So I lost my old .config file but i recreated it. I don't have the device with me for testing. When configuring and compiling uboot i recommend https://gitlab.com/openwrt-dev-ru-smartbox/u-boot-mt7621/-/blob/mt7621-v2018.09-rev1.3-2020-07-13/MTK%20MT7621%20U-Boot%20User%20Manual.pdf and https://u-boot.readthedocs.io/en/latest/board/mediatek/mt7621.html as a reference (remember the dram initialization blob). I used buildroot 2022.05 setup with gcc9 to crosscompile u-boot. I recommend having a flash programmer and a backup of stock firmware in case of failure. The Wifi Leds did not seem to work and i did not bother investigating. When building uboot make sure the binary fits in the 192k uboot partition.
config, image and my openwrt dts are in https://github.com/cd4046bf/Openwrt-for-Victure-AC1200-Files
I'm not good at configuring a bootloader, but it should work, maybe someone with a bit more knoledge can redo it better.

WOW! thank you so much i was following this whole thread and it was actually working but i feel like i am missing a finishing step or something, how do i finish? please forgive my complete and utter ignorance, i am old and trying to learn, i have read the start guides and everything, obviously picking a router that is not supported officially may not have been the best move for a old newb, but i am here nonetheless. If you have any guidance i would be grateful.

This is great work! Well done all who put in the work. I would love to use it but like @skittles1200 above it's probably a little beyond my skills. Well, I probably could do install it, but I can't risk bricking the only router we have in the house.

The WR1200's existing firmware has a nasty bug that means, every month or so, the wifi breaks. We have to cold reboot the router. This happens mostly on the 5GHz channel but sometimes on the 2.4GHz channel too. It's just not very good software.

But ultimately I think we're just going to move on up to a Wifi6 router and send this WR1200 to the e-waste recycling centre in the sky...
