Support for the BR2551e Bluetooth chip on OpenWrt to scan BLE beacons (Eddystone, iBeacon)

Hello,

I would like to use a device running OpenWrt to scan Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons, specifically Eddystone and iBeacon* without requiring pairing. I need to know whether the BR2551e Bluetooth chip is supported by OpenWrt.

My questions are:

  1. Does OpenWrt include a driver compatible with this chip?

  2. If not, is there a kmod module or a bluez package that can add support?

  3. Has anyone successfully used this chip on OpenWrt to scan BLE advertising packets from Eddystone or iBeacon beacons?

  4. Do tools like hcitool lescan, hcidump -X, or btmon work with this chip on OpenWrt?

Thank you

You must ask at place of purchase. Manufacturers datasheet mentions linux and bluez. Obviously chip must be soldered on some pcb with antennas, so free standing chip is certainly not supported in every place, like baked inside a pastry.

These , in general anything included in laptop wifi cards is well tested.

Thank you for your reply.

Are the USB bluetooth dongle listed on the link all compatible with openwrt ?

If that is the case I might go with that straight forward solution !

Some maybe need firmware, not packaged yet, but typically kmod-bluetooth
