I disagree. In the limit that is almost correct (unless we talk ethernet gross rate 500/500 here), but that is a very fickle set-up.
I agree, but I consider that to be a mis-design ;). Also as far as I can tell none of the big boy routers resort to such design ;).
well, for 500/50 connection mentioned here I do think the single ethernet controller and vlans will probably work. I think it would also work for maybe 250/250 or 300/300 which is still a very good connection these days.
Much more than 600Mbps total is probably pushing the horsepower of the CPU, so I don't think the vlan technique is going to hurt for the cases where the CPU is competent. I could be wrong though.
