Status of WAC510 port

I don't think it has anything to do with the flash just like @StifflersMagic correctly stated. After all, this is still the regular bootloader at work. However, likely bootipq on the WAC505 is looking for a different configuration aka device tree which we may have to add...

I'm not an expert so what should I do / check now?

I guess we need to figure out what exact config the bootipq command expects. What does booting OEM from flash say there in the bootloader?

OK, looks like while the WAC510 uses config@5 your WAC505 actually uses config@1. This is currently set here:

I guess, you could try a build with setting this to 1 instead. The ultimate solution is probably to have both configurations potentially also with model specific device trees.

This is likely due to a different board calibration file being used. I am not really an expert on this topic but I am sure @robimarko would know what exactly needs to be done in that respect.

Hm, do you have an error or does it simply not broadcast?

It fails to fetch the board data as it hasn't been included in the image and also isn't included in the upstream board-2.bin

Can you paste the error?
Did you change the variant in the DTS?

A few posts up is the bootlog with the error.

Well, I would guess that the relevant ipq-wifi virtual package was not included in the image.
But, WAC505 has different BDF-s to those should be extracted and used instead anyway.

Yeah, I guess another difference is the flash configuration. While the WAC510 has both SPI-NOR for booting and parametrization as well as a NAND for kernel and rootfs the WAC505 only has NAND for everything. That probably needs to be depicted in a specific device tree...

Anyone here tested kernel 5.10?

Last time I tried it broke ethernet, something to do with the MDIO drivers being separated out to their folder, not sure if that has been addressed.

Nobody touched 5.10, MDIO drivers moved and probing of the hacky AR40XX will fail before it gets probed before the MDIO bus hence failing.

I have that worked around for a long time, just no time to make it pretty for OpenWrt.

I just installed the 21.0.2.0 snapshot onto my wac510. Then I ssh'd into the device and installed luci that way. I was looking into trying to compile openwrt for the wac510 with the 21.0.2.0-rc4 code but I have failed. Is there any work still being done on this device firmware?

Thanks to folks at the #openwrt-devel channel I was able to get a better understanding of the build structure and I was able to compile owrt 21.02.0 stable branch with wac510 support. I guess it’s called backporting but I just wanted to not be on a nightly.

Any news or is there a separate thread?

I'm soon moving in to a new place and find two 505's fairly cheap which would give me excellent coverage in all rooms, ofc i would love to run openwrt on them so i can block thing on ip level.
