Hey. I am using a Linksys E8450 router.

I've set the ingress to 50 Mbps (I get 150 Mbps but I made it lower to show that the ingress settings doesnt get applied for some reason)

I'm getting 164 Mbps even when its set on 50 Mbps....

However, my upload speeds are within the set egress limits.

I just want to play games (Valorant mostly) with low latency and without any lag in between.

I would also like to know if there's any settings that I could change for a low latency gaming and lesser ping... (I am on wifi 5 for now :frowning: I am planning to get a ethernet though soon enough)

What do I set the ingress before running the above tests?

Disable SQM completely to figure out if you have bufferbloat on uplink, if it is added by weak openwrt router. Ie start from baseline to improve.
EDIT: essentially you have less control on ingress, could even go to the degree as you show 3x more data pass.

SQM is turned off. I am using a laptop now that has a better wifi adapter than my pc. So my speeds seem to be better now.

And I've disabled both software and hardware offloading. I do have WED enabled (it was told to enable it in the device page for E8450 in openwrt)

Somehow device wan qdisc is missing, you can set fq_codel on wan and eth0 directly, at least eth0 does not seem to employ more than one queue.

tc qdisc replace dev eth0 root fq_codel

And test again and show more compact result, ie only pppoe eth and wan

The jitter - run mtr against pppoe concentrator (you see it in ip link) and check back in 5 minutes, you cannot improve over that no matter how hard you push. Say if it is mostly 5ms with 100ms spikes you have to get over it.

Anyway idea is to splice up from half to get into sweet spot of great latency if possible at all.

I have one more doubt. My ISP was advertised as Fibernet. But when they set up my router, they used a PPOE connection with username and password. So I am not sure if my overhead should be 34 or 44. Would that make a huge diffference btw?

My waveform results are still bad in my pc which is in the next room. I am planning to get a ethernet cable however its too far and im not really sure if thats possible...

I've seen these powerline adapters that transmit internet via electrical wiring in the home? Are those worth it? Should I get it

Ok, connect wired and set ingress to 0, egress to half of bw (90Mbps) then go up halving the reminder and when ul latency rises takeone st€p back.
Repeat for ingress.

Start by running a temporary ethernet cable just to see if it makes any difference.

SQM doesn’t really control the data movement on the inside of the firewall so if one computer keep having buffer problem there is another problem in your network.

I bet you enabled that sqm instance...

Well, sqm will do nothing if the bottleneck is not the link it is configured on, and here it sounds as if WiFi would be the issue. Ethernet segments can by IEEE standards up to 100m long, that is quite a long cable... in most houses/flats 100m should get up into the next room ;). (Sidenote you can buy flat ethernet cable that can also be routed through exiosting doors).

Powerline adapters (often called PLC) typically bring in their own bufferbloat and typically are poison for DSL links, but with a real fibre link the latter will not effect you. These can be quite convenient when ethernet cables are not an option though...

When I change my country code in 5 Ghz, my wifi stops working. However 2.4 Ghz does work though. Its only the 5 Ghz that does this.

How long did you try the 5GHz and which channel are you using? If the channel requires DFS the radio will need to monitor the channel for 1 minute IIRC and it will only actually start using that channel after it has found no evidence for the channel being used by radar.
