SQM in a double NAT setup

I have a non opwnwrt router that I cannot change yet and I am wondering if I can put an openwrt router in front of It and use it as a border router with SQM. Will SQM properly work here if it sees all the traffic coming from a single IP address? Trying to solve latency problems without replacing the main router.

If you use the cake qdisc in SQM, its current default mode "triple-isolate" should help in that. It aims to do fairly both for different internal hosts AND different external hosts, so having all traffin coming from one internal host should not decrease the functionality too much.
