Change wan to pppoe, add username pass, make sure it is in wan firewall zone. This is the least minimum usually. I don't know if your ISP has any special requirements to connect. Try to switch off the modem a few minutes to make sure that mac tables are clean just in case.

@trendy Ok well with WAN in PPPoE mode there is no change except I can no longer access my modem on 192.168.2.1
Is the modem in bridging mode to allow pppoe passthrough?
Final update for anyone who came across this thread: trendy's advice was correct, but I just needed a reboot and then the router accessed the internet. Thanks for your help, @trendy!
