Sorry, 140 was a DFS channel and the last available in the listbox. Those non DFS 144-161 are not provided in the Luci listbox, I can just see those in iw list.
Channel 36 seems to work.
I'll close this thread. Please continue on the upstream issue ticket, as for me it is still not clear, if there is a bug in mwlwifi or not, the developer denies.
