[Solved] Need Feedback on LEDE and Netgear DGN3500

Greetings

I am interested in installing LEDE v17.01.4 onto a Netgear DGN3500 (Annex A).

Is this release stable with DSL, WIFI and LAN functions.

Are there any issues I need to be aware of before installing.

Are there any workarounds that are recommended.

This is my main modem/router so I would like to avoid any issues that would put me offline. I have a old backup modem/router just in case.

Many Thanks

My ISP Network Type is PPPoE in case there are issues with PPPoE.

I had a read of DGN3500 thread you suggested, only noticed one report of slow DSL and no feedback if that has been resolved.

So I'm hoping someone provides some feedback/recommendation on whether the current release good enough.

So, no one will be able to tell you if LEDE will work well on your router, or not.

It depends on what your goals are, and how you want to use it.

The LEDE firmware that is available for the DGN3500 and DGN3500B is on the stable release.

I would suggest the following...

Read over the LEDE Quick Start Guide...

https://lede-project.org/docs/guide-quick-start/start

Read over the LEDE User Guide...

https://lede-project.org/docs/user-guide/start

Make sure it's something you want to take on.

LEDE does need to be configured, more so than stock firmware...it is not plug and play.

Often, settings that are not configured correctly cause more issues than not. Becoming familiar with LEDE beforehand is helpful in avoiding that.

Also, make sure you know how to revert back to stock firmware in case things go wrong.

Understand what "failsafe mode" is, what a TFTP recovery is, what a serial recovery is, and when you need to do what.

Bottom line, do your preparation, but in the end, you need to install it and set it up to find out.

Agreed,

I am trying to do all the preparations before flashing LEDE, I have a USB to TTL serial on order.

Part of my preparations is gaining feedback from anyone that is currently using LEDE 17.01.4 on the DGN3500 successfully before I go ahead,

Which is why you created the thread...

You might consider changing the title to something like Need Feedback on LEDE and Netgear DGN3500

Initial Success (Factory)

  1. I used the Netgear Web Upgrade with lede-17.01.4-lantiq-xway-DGN3500-squashfs-factory-WW.img :ok_hand:
  2. Setup Network->Interfaces->>ATM Bridges VPI/VCI for my ISP :ok_hand:
  3. Setup Network->Interfaces->>WAN->Edt-> Username and Password
  4. Saved and Applied Settings, then rebooted and was back online in minutes.

Status:
DSL, WAN, LAN, WLAN all working reliably.

I will continue testing then report back

Edit 1:

Need to setup mac address for LAN ( use the MAC Address on the label of the base of modem )
http://192.168.1.1/cgi-bin/luci/admin/network/network/lan
5) Setup Network->Lan (Edit) -> Advanced Settings -> Overide MAC Address

Cool beans.

Remember to back up your configuration before making any changes.

That way, if anything goes sideways, you can get back to a good known state.

I have been using the factory image of LEDE 17.01.4 on the DGN3500 for a week now.
I have not had any issues,

  1. DSL no dropouts and link speed is very good.
  2. WLAN no dropouts very stable
  3. LAN no issues

Bonus
Installed USB_STORAGE and SAMBA software packages and attached 2TB portable disk drive, so now I have a basic NAS drive (USB2 speeds of course ).

Big Thankyou to the Developers and Community
