[Solved] Loss of WAN IP Address after Reboot

I am having some difficulty where when I reboot my raspberry pi 5 (Running OpenWrt), I need to reboot the ISP Modem to get an IPv4 address for the WAN port. This seemed like a simple issue, but I could not find any previous posts on this issue. I tried running ifup wan and ifup eth1 and I get "Interface wan not found" or "Interface eth1 not found."

I've never used OpenWrt before now, and I like the degree of freedom It's giving me versus TP Deco. But I'm at an impasse. What data or logs can I try and gather and add to this post that can narrow down my WAN IP issue?

For now here are some info:

Why does there appear to be a Wan and a wan interface ?

Which USB ethernet adapter are you using ? post lsusb.

To answer your second question, the raspberry PI 5 has a PCIe port, I am using a Multi-functional All-in-one Mini-Computer Kit Designed for Raspberry Pi 5 SKU:27831

I don't have an answer to your first question... Maybe poor formatting on my part.

good on you, we still want the lsusb output.

when I type lsusb, I get -ash: lsusb: not found

it's in the usbutils package.

I will install

sorry, you said PCIe, lspci from pciutils, not usbutils...

ok.

can you force the misbehaviour by a simple reboot ?

in that case reboot it, and post dmesg afterwards, when wan is down.
might need to split it into several posts, each post is limited to 32k chars.

then the new entries after you've restarted your modem.

use the </> button on top of the message window, when you paste the logs.

The last misbehavior was after a simple reboot. I will reboot it and get dmesg. Maybe offline for a bit.

if this is true, it might be the issue - new random MAC on every reboot.

try overriding the randomized MAC, set the one it generated in the log, on the WAN interface, making it stay the same.

Okay! I saw that somewhere. I will learn how to force a static MAC. Thank you Frollic!

If setting the MAC doesn't fix the issue, I will be sure to update this post.

FYI, the "error message" will probably still show during boot, but if you run ifconfig, you should see the MAC being the same after every reboot.

You are correct, the error still occurs in dmesg, but the there is no misbehavior. Thanks again.
