[Solved] Linksys EA8500 w 24.10.5, no internet when wireless enabled

I installed 24.10.5 onto a Linksys EA8500 by downgrading the OEM firmware as mentioned in the EA8500 guide and flashing OpenWRT from the OEM GUI.

After accessing OpenWRT for the first time via Ethernet, I added a password and confirmed that my computer could access to the Internet. I then enabled WiFi and lost all Internet access. The OpenWRT status page showed no Internet until I disabled both WiFi bands. I reset the router using putty and, again, WAN access was fine until I enabled WiFi.

I couldn't get back into the stock firmware so I followed the EA8500 and flashed the stock firmware using Putty to start from scratch. Flashing the OEM firmware seems to have worked but the Linksys firmware provides no way for me to access the router settings via IP address and there is no option for manual configuration.

I could find no reason for this and I set the EA8500 up the same way I set up a Linksys EA7500.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for reading.

we can't help you as long as you're not on openwrt.

Router is on OpenWRT 24.10.5.

I've decided to forget using the router's WiFi and add an access point.

This device has bad MAC address allocation
the Wi-Fi has the same MAC address as the wan port
and when turned of it all goes bad

Change the mac address on the Wi-Fi so they are all differ

Thank you!

I didn't pay attention to the MAC addresses until I saw your comment.

I do find your comment odd as the EA7500 and EA8500 do both have the same problem
oh, well, it’s an easy but annoying

and soon someone will jump on and say the mac address makes no difference
and you and me are left shaking own heads

Assuming a fresh install of the Linksys stock firmware on your EA8500, try typing the following into your browser URL window: http://192.168.1.1/ (note it is not “https” and this assumes your browser allows for this - I use Firefox for instance). You may receive a warning, screen, click the “Advanced” button near the bottom of the page and allow the connection for your router’s IP address. This should do the trick. The default username is “admin” and the password is typically the same (case sensitive).

Thanks for the suggestion. I saved this information in a document for future reference.

I have been using the ea7500 for about 8 months and never had to change MAC addresses to have WiFi working with the Internet.

I made note of this issue for future reference.

Thanks again for your prompt reply.

Same MAC on multiple interfaces was a problem in times of kernel 4.4, certainly solved since 5.x
