[Solved] Hosts talking between zones

Could be both, depending on how tight you want the firewall to be.

OpenWrt has DDNS client you can use when the IP of the WAN interface changes.You could have one FQDN that gets updated by the DDNS and the other names CNAME to the main one.

Do you mean that one would update the hosts entry file for any local IP change and one would update the external IP address when the wan ip changes?

I believe the local IP will never change.
I was referring to the WAN IP.

I figured as much, makes sense since all inportant IPs on my lan are all static. Thank you for helping me figure this one out. Didn't think the answer would be so simple as fill out the hostnames to resolve on the lan.
