[SOLVED] Cudy WR3000E and USB modem 4G

Hi all

I’m going to buy this router and I would like to know if I can use it with an USB modem 4G with OpenWRT

Is there a compatibility list fro the usb stick?

Thanks

PS: SOLVED because I’ve just realized that this router has no USB port!

99.9% are compatible, you can even hook up an old 4g mobile phone if needed.

Also look at OpenWrt rebuild dealing mainly with supporting predominantly mobile wan

Avoid using sticks if you can, consider other options.
If you own some modem already - feel free to share details about it.

There is no USB port on this device, neither v1 or v2 :face_with_spiral_eyes:

EDIT: the WR3000P has it

Really strange for router.

Thanks all for your replies

@AndrewZ why do you suggest not to use usb modem?

My goal is to have a temporary router to use with a sim card
My first idea was to use a smartphone via tethering via cable (not this case because there no usb port) or via wifi.
Then I was thinking to use an usb stick since I have one spare.

Probably, it’s better to go directly with a 4G router, cudy has LT400 which seems to be fairly good with a reasonable price

I said stick, not modem.

This solution is mostly suitable for those who live in places that resemble telephone booths.
In real life people want to place their WiFi router in the centre of the property or another location where it can provide the best coverage. Then for 4G/5G modem the best location is typically at the edge of the property - it could be window, attic, roof, etc.

The LT isn't supported.

I know devices with and without USB port and it doesn't sound strange in either case. Just buy the one you need.

I am myself in need for USB tethering (it happens that FTTH goes down a couple of times a year). For this I use a vintage device with USB port as a gateway to the main router. Maybe you can use such recycled device.

Is this device supported by OpenWrt too (I assume the internals are identical)?

This device can be seen as WR3000H + PoE on WAN port + USB.
It is supported in snapshot (check the commit for PoE support, I don't remember exactly) and so will be supported in next major and possibly next minor (24.10.x).
