shrink the mtd again ?
we have no idea what this means and how the mtd relates to the USB.
ok, can you tell me how i can recover while booting off a usb flashdrive?
i’m having trouble with ftp syntax and have failed to transfer firmware from local storage
we can't tell you anything, since the only thing you've told us is "it doesn't work".
we have no idea what you've done ("resized mtd" doesn't really help), what you're trying to do, and how you're trying to do it.
FTP <> TFTP, no wonder it's failing.
not sure why you thought i thought they were the same
i am trying to wget firmware files locally from the cli
because you wrote it, remember ?
ftp isn't used very much doing install or recovery of openwrt.
that's not what you wrote in your initial posts.
you're all over the place.
what i wrote is i’m trying to ftp files from local storage
lovely beside manner, doc
I doubt any "local storage" have ftp server built in.
define "local storage".
wow. i’m running a server and my local storage is my laptop
mebbe you need a snack..?
well, FTP command syntax isn't an openwrt issue ...
"mebbe" you need to do your homework ?
i’m not claiming it is. i have failed to transfer via ftp and it is likely because i’m unable to work out the wget ftp syntax. there may be some other issue it’s just that this was my last attempt and it seems to be failing at syntax
you in the business of support or abuse?
ftp FT.P.IP
bin
get filname
since your thread went from mtd resize, to firmware upload, to ftp transfers, probably some S&M.
support fora are so often a key part of research, don’t you agree, friend?
you sure failed the research part, I agree.
i opene3d with mtdf resize as that’s the context of why i’m booting from usb
progress from initramfs might logically be firmware restore
what’s your role here pal? if you’re not interested in helping why not slough off and let someone else kick in?
if your FTP host have python installed, you can always launch a HTTP server:
python -m http.server 8000
Before complaining about others trying to help you, please take a step back and re-read your thread. So far you haven't revealed what device you're talking about, 'how' you resized you the mtd (whatever that means in this context), at what stage/ in which environment you're currently operating, no nuffing.
However frollic is spot on by raising that ftp, http and usb are not typical recovery mechanisms in these situations, so there is something amiss.
Keep in mind, we are not mind readers, our crystal balls are foggy, we don't see what you're seeing and only know what you're willing to reveal in this thread (we're not going to piece your story together from potential prior threads elsewhere, presenting your case is your job, not ours). Also consider that you're talking to volunteers, not paid support drones reading their script and comforting your feelings, while being useless and leaving their brains at home by the door.
Complaining..? Not sure what you’re interpreting as a complaint.
As for volunteers, I’ve zero doubt it’s a challenging job. I sure don’t have the temperament for it so I sympathise (though not enough to refrain from posting when very tired, obviously). Having said that, if I were to volunteer at the local soup kitchen and in the course of my labour spend time flicking peas and mashed potato at the diners I’d reckon it’s probably time to go home, most probably time to reconsider how much good I was doing more broadly.
