[Solved] b43 in place of ath9k: wifi not working anymore

Working on this issue I decided to install kmod-b43 and to remove all kmod-ath9*.
Now radio0 is not up anymore, the wifi does not work and logread shows:

netifd: radio0: Could nto find PHY for device 'radio0'

There is no /var/run/hostapd-phy0.conf and wifi up does not work...

kmod-b43 - 4.9.152+2017-11-01-9 - Kernel module for Broadcom 43xx wireless support (mac80211 stack) new

kmod-ath9k - 4.9.152+2017-11-01-9 - This module adds support for wireless adapters based on Atheros IEEE 802.11n AR5008 and AR9001 family of chipsets.

These are two different, incompatible wireless chipsets. They are not interchangeable in any way, shape, or form (kind of like diesel fuel vs gasoline).

You will need to completely reset your router to defaults. If you can still ssh into the device, run firstboot.

Thank you. Done! Can I use ath10k instead? I might have a problem with ath9k.

No.

Ok got it. Seems like I'm gonna keep my issue for a while

  • I advise you to stop making different threads - it's easier for others to assist you
  • If you believed that your solution is to install incompatible drivers, you will continue to have this issue for a while
  • I'm guessing your issue from here hasn't been solved???
  • Have you tried installing 18.06.2 (it was just released)?
