About 802.11r issues:
Ever since I got my iPhone 13 Mini shortly after its launch it's been having issues with my 802.11r enabled network. This is what happens:
The iPhone connects to the first AP without issues.
When it is moved to an area where the signal strength is poor it initiates a roam, but it never switches to the new AP. The router logs seem to indicate that the FT authentication is successful, but the iPhone disconnects shortly after this. It only disconnects from the AP it tries to roam to, the connecti…
Thanks. Unfortunately I don't have the tools required to troubleshoot the clients.
Interestingly enough these errors only appears with Apple devices (there are two iPads and two iPhones at home, and only their MAC address appear in these error messages).
Anyway, I am still suspecting it is somehow related to a device roaming across different OpenWRT access points. See errors below, they are from DMESG from two different OpenWRT access points, probably happened when the devices were roaming (ho…
Oh man I feel your pain. In my case with 3xRT3200's I just set it up in LuCi (WPA2-PSK) with all defaults save for setting FT over air and reassociation deadline to 20000 and it just works even for Pixel 3a. I could post my config if that'd be helpful.
I do have some trouble with Apple devices getting disconnects or connectivity issues requiring manual WiFi disconnection and reconnection at the device.
Personally I've faced these issues when trying to enable 802.11r with Archer C6 v3 (Mediatek MT7621). I've never managed to make it work with Apple devices after a lot of efforts trying to make it work. So i gave up. After I've upgraed to AX6S (Mediatek MT7622) I've never tried to re-enable 802.11r. Basically both Android/Samsung and Apple devices are roaming pretty well across 4 different APs without 802.11r.
