Solution OpenWRT for RG-EW3200GX-PRO from Web Browser (100% Success)

An easy way to install OpenWRT on the RG-EW3000GX-PRO Wireless Router is by using a web browser, without having to think about the complexity of using TTL/UART, as follows:

  1. Make sure the original router firmware is EW_3.0(1)B11P204. If you are still using a newer firmware version, please downgrade the firmware first (download here)
  2. After the router restarts perfectly with the EW_3.0(1)B11P204 firmware. The firmware can upgrade the .bin file from openwrt.
  3. Open a web browser with the IP address 192.168.110.1, please upgrade the Openwrt KERNEL file (download here). Wait a few minutes for the router to restart for a few minutes and get the IP 192.168.1.1
  4. Prepare the Openwrt Sysupgrade file for the Openwrt finalization process (download here). Wait a few minutes for the router to restart for a few minutes and get the IP 192.168.1.1
  5. The process is complete and your RG-EW3200GX-PRO router is now OpenWRT.

Would be nice to make a device ALTNAME PR to have device recognized in firmware-selector

Follow the style of asus rt-ax1800u

This is for EW3200 not EW3000 as the title and some of the content suggests?

Hi, it seems cross-flashing is 100% working, though some functional verification might be needed....

I tried the steps above and couldn't flash the original fw as its for 3200. Nor downgrading the current fw allowed me to flash openwrt as they seem to have different chips.
Can you point me to the original thread where ew3000 is being mentioned?
Many thanks

Seems this is the original-est thread out there on cross-flashing this device. Just that nobody took effort to make it into a PR.

I believe this might be a typo (3000 vs 3200) as the hw is not the same and the fw in the post and pictures displayed here are for 3200.

Nothing here is for 3000...

Many thanks

Oh really, open a new thread then.
As per OEM docs

FileTitle EW_3.0(1)B11P380_E4_12231501_encrypto_v1.tar.gz
RG-EW3000GX Hardware version number:1.xx
RG-EW3000GX-PRO Hardware version number:1.xx
RG-E4Hardware version number:1.xx

(ie different from 3200)

Thanks for the feedback.

If I open a new thread is there any chance someone will help me to build a fw for the 3000 version?
It is based on the MT7981 (Gemini dix it...), I can't find much info and I'm new here.

OK, open a new thread, i will close this misleading magnet
