Software Update Lists generally fails

It doesn't seem like it should be such a pain but it is. I click the button in the update software page and I usually get fails that start out like this:

Downloading http://downloads.lede-project.org/releases/17.01.0/targets/bcm53xx/generic/packages/Packages.gz
*** Failed to download the package list from http://downloads.lede-project.org/releases/17.01.0/targets/bcm53xx/generic/packages/Packages.gz

Takes an awful lot of tries to get my software to Update Lists so I can install Luci-app-sqm at this page:

http://192.168.1.1/cgi-bin/luci/admin/system/packages

I wonder if I am doing something wrong or if there is an easy workaround, like downloading it manually and then loading it some way.

First guess is that you have something strange with your network config. There have been somewhat similar reports from users who had badly configured routing, so that there was 192.168.1.X network both on the WAN side and the LAN side of the router.

Are you directly connected to internet, or is there another device like a smart modem or something like that?

Your router should have a different subnet on the WAN side than on the LAN side. Check the wan address and if that is 192.168.1.X, you need to change subnet for the router and the local LAN. To e.g. 192.168.2.X

Good guess...but it appears to have been a bad cable connection. Thanks for the attention.
