Shrinking free space on storage

With LEDE 17.01 on WR1043nd v4 I noticed that my free space on storage is shrinking over time with no apparent reason. DF is reporting right now 5360KB of free space. When I initially configured the router it had 5372KB of free storage. Nothing was changed, no config, nothing. I even used WinSCP to check modification date and no file was changed after the day when I configured the router. I have LuCI installed. Can this be the reason?

How worried should I be about this?
It's not a big issue until I run out of space and router becomes bricked.

Are you sure you refer to the flash memory, and not to the /tmp ramdisk?
What is the "df" output?

Other angle is that all your changes & installations are in /overlay, which is normally shown on top of /rom to be an united / root filesystem

  • /rom contains the firmware and packages settings that were in the flashed image
  • /overlay contains all your later config changes, package installations etc.

You should go to /overlay/upper and see what consumes the storage space.
Use du, tree or whatever.

I went to /overlay/upper and the last modified folder was from end of march. Nothing was changed since, yet free space is shrinking.
