You can show actual sending power with iwconfig command! And actual receiving poder with iw dev {your_device} station dump. Can you tell me what is your wireless card model? I'm doing a study about wireless and I need cards that allow multiple managed stations.

There isn't dynamic automatic power control. If you choose "auto" it just uses one of the settings from the list, probably the highest one.
