then there's nothing special about your setup...

is openwrt the only software which has no bugs or glitches being used on specific devices? I guess no, so blame is always a good thing to make a proper triage, there are no saint vendors in software, in oss as well - i know what' im speaking

have fun with your set up, I'm out of here.

thank you master of universe, now we know THE best software is the world is openwrt. might become a religion  while the rest of the world is working towards developer experience and lower the entry level to grow ecosystem openwrt society has its own proud way of existence

Really?

Because I thought the point was to help in solving your segfault and connectivity issue...that they aren't experiencing, but for some reason you have.

I'm guessing if you paid for the assistance, you would have a different point of view?

To be clear, are you troubleshooting the issue or do you prefer waiting for paid support?

I didn't want to proceed unless you were agreeable.

indeed indeed, i appreciate we are still speaking. nothing bad about you or generally system - and I'm not looking for 'hey guys here i am please solve it for me'. I'm just getting a bit irritated when guru is saying - it works for me, should work for you. thanks sir, but you probably did your years before it was easy peasy, right? so for me entrance level to the routing between different networks, interfaces and etc is too high to accomplish. and i was under impression some may reply - yep, probably 1st thing is this, 2nd thing is that. etc. because no person wants to spend time digging into others bs for free I was looking also for paid support.

to make things effective I would definitely re-install the wrt, because it may be a common baseline for everyone to start with. however because package list can be precompiled it would be great if someone will say ok pls add this and that to your setup. but maybe it doesn't worth to do because installing packages in image without making sure there are already dependencies there in the list would even worsen the situation. so what woudl you recommend - run from scratch with default package list for device or request custom image?

I thought this was made communicated already. To be clear, you intend to install the needed packages, correct?

I don't understand the default package question - are you altering the firmware in some way?

I honestly don't understand this point of view, but OK. This is why I asked if the steps were being ignored because you didn't pay for them.

I want to be sure before I repeat "bs" again.

It would also help to answer some of the questions asked.

I think I'm still irritative while I don't want to be such. To clarify on facts:

  1. I'm going to reflash router with factory image from here: https://firmware-selector.openwrt.org/?version=24.10.2&target=ipq40xx%2Fgeneric&id=glinet_gl-a1300
  2. I will not add any additional packages to the image,
  3. I will go with factory image to make sure all previous configuration is complete erased
  4. once done, I will go to LUCI and will be installing packages (any additional packages) via LUCI
  5. now the question - should I stick to installing of redsocks and as you recommend iptables iptables-mod-nat-extra or you would suggest more?
  • :warning: No! If you're running OpenWrt, don't use factory images to reflash from the OpenWrt web GUI or command line. Use sysupgrade.
  • Not sure why you used Firmware Selector (perhaps a question you haven't answered yet?)

So no answer to this:

Addressed in #1.

Thanks for the clarification/answer finally, but I thought you were asking for assistance. What packages (please answer this important question)?

Why are you installing iptables?

(I made no such recommendation. You were conversing with someone else who decided to stop assisting.)

FYI, version 24 uses nftables for firewall - I suggest converting the rules (if possible).

If you need any detailed clarification - please ask.

thanks, will use sysupgrade

sir, as your colleague has recommended installation of iptables iptables-mod-nat-extra and to make sure I'm not running into consequence of my previous hours of trials&errors I will install packages on freshly reset device which will only have a sysupgrade official image with only those packages which you saw on the screenshots above.

Before installing any new packages:

  1. will enter lucy and there via webui I'll setup wwan and lan networks connectivity
  2. I will make sure no subnet overlap / intersection between wwan and lan
  3. only after that I will install (because it is impossible to install via luci before getting an internet connection) redsocks, iptables and iptables-mod-nat-extra
  4. after that I will check what's in my network and redsocks.conf - hopefully I will be able to reproduce your setup
  5. of course I reserve the right to return and ask once installation complete and before running into extensive iptables configurations what could be next step.

Using Firmware Selector- you can add those packages (thats why I asked about your use of it).

To be clear - [I assume] it's my "colleague's" setup you're attempting to accomplish from above.

Let is know! :+1:

ok, so what to do - if stick to v.24 nftables which are coming by default, would I be able to get same functional capabilities as with iptables + iptables-mod-nat-extra?

don't want to break your faith in humanity but if I specify those packages in the firmware selector, would imagebuilder sofware also install the respective dependencies of these packages into the image, or I might end up having redsocks installed, but missing libs it depends on and which I don't have any clue about?

I understand that some of this may be new, so ill quote relevant discussion. Again:

If can successfully translate the rule (there is a tool for this) - then yes - it's the same "functional capability".

thanks, then I'm starting on it, will reply here once I get it solved/stuck

Since Firmware Selector and Image Builder are 2 different things in OpenWrt, I'm cautious about answering your question. But yes, the Firmware Selector installs dependencies.

Just my faith in not answering already answered questions (you can see the packages installed on the Firmware Selector output log after completion)
