MTU should be in PPPoE settings in Advanced Settings tab. It changes form an ISP to another. You can calculate it or you can just ask ISP (if you haven't noted it before you change the HG531 to bridge mode).

To access the HG531 interface I think you would need to connect to it directly.
But you shouldn't need to access it often since almost everything is now happening on the R7800.
In my setup I have the ISP modem-router WiFi off, and I only turn it on when I need to access the modem.
