I have a Cudy WR3000 v1 router and no other live networking gear. OpenWrt 25.12.4. The device is connected to a home modem. I have not changed any wifi settings from the defaults and so I do NOT have wifi turned on.
I would like to create a guest network so that an untrusted device can connect to the internet.
The main purpose of this post is to make sure that I am following the correct instructions.
I will probably want to undo what I have done in a couple of weeks. Maybe there will be a new version of openwrt that I can flash to and start fresh at that point.
I am not sure if the device will support WPA3. So, I would like to set it up as WPA2, if that's an option.
Here are some help articles that I have found. I suppose I prefer the command line interface b/c that's quicker.
Here are some links that I found in the help files
A single script. I never knew that you could just paste a large script like that into the command line. Sounds easy enough.
Using LUCI (this was linked to in a 2022 thread)
Can I just follow one of the instruction sets? Or do the instructions assume that I already have wifi set up?
I am a little concerned about whether the instructions apply to me.
Moreover, in this post
"Guest wifi dumbap which is written for 18.06.1 and is quite similar but slightly different."
In other words, I am concerned as to whether the 2 earlier links apply to my openwrt version and/or my model.
I know that the LuCI guest wifi tutorial is up to date and will work. I'd have to check over the CLI version to verify it. I'm happy to do that later, if you'd like.
If you haven't set up wifi at all you'll need to make sure the global radio enables are set (under wifi:device) and set your country code. Set both radios to the same country even if only using one.
I would follow guest wifi with LuCi guide (i made it and works) and enable only guest interfaces that you created. After that, if you want, you can remove both "OpenWRT" SSIDs that appears on wireless interfaces.

to enable the selected Radio and then turn it off with DISABLE."
My question:
I created a guest network on 2.4 GHz radio frequency WPA2.
I also have 2 other wifi networks now configured, both WPA3. These are NOT guest networks. Does this setup sound ok to you? Do I have to have any non-guest networks running while running the guest network?
I am still not sure that I understand what requirement you are trying to explain here. Maybe it has been explained elsewhere in this thread but I am still unclear.
