@psherman can I add the host name directly in the router under DHCP/DNS hostnames section or will this stuff up the mdns?
you can add the names into the DHCP/DNS resolver settings, or create a DHCP reservation and I'm pretty sure you can put in a hostname for it to use in the DNS resolver.
I just added it via the hostname section and works now. I wasn't aware of mdns and the devices give out there own dns. Thanks for all your help!

Obviously there is more you are exploring and considering for your network topology and features, so I'm not sure if the problem is really solved or not.
