RT-AX3000 - Compatible?

I have (hopefully) a simple question. The Asus RT-AX1800U is listed in the hardware table. Tech specs.

The RT-AX3000 is not listed, but has similar (but better) specs and that's the router I currently have (Tech specs).

Quick overview, the RT-AX300 has 256 MB flash/512 MB ram and a tri-core processor.

I'm wondering if that should be compatible, if anyone's tried it, and that isn't known, if this is a matter of backup the current firmware/settings, try/troubleshoot/see if it works, and revert if it doesn't.

I've read the FAQs but I've never done custom firmware on routers before (I have on other devices).

ie wifi will suck due to limited open source driver support.

…which doesn't exist -at all- for 802.11ax Broadcom wireless.
