Router and firewall

Hello all,
what device (hardware) do you recommend these days for a router and firewall (pfsense maybe?) to be able to run 1/1 GBit, if possible 2.5Gbit/and more, with a low power consumption (my current routers use 20-30W)

For a wifi i have separate routers/extenders and maybe its a good practice to separate router+firewall from a wifi circuit.

Thanks alot!

Openwrt APs can happily live in dumb ap/ wired extender configuration and non-openwrt firewall managing network details. You will need sime rockchip or filogic device to do gigabit+gigabit forwsrding, 10-15Wpower. Also check protexli for purpose built pc-router or search this forum about bolting real multiport netcard in 2nd hand nettop/thin client machines.

I currently use a DIY small form factor device with 4 interfaces as a boundry router running Internet <-> Openwrt <---> DMZ <----> OpnSense <---> secured segments. The DMZ is where all my WiFi Gets dumped from my house / guests IoT and others, the OpnSense is where everything like my PC's my media devices and such go in different VLANs. Of course the requirement is that you must have a Switch that supports VLANs and such.

@brada4 thanks,
could you be more specific which rockchip or filogic device are you referring to?
thanks

type mt79 or rk for cpu.

@brada4 not sure if i get it ... looking for hw w/out wifi
there are plenty boards... almost all with wifi?

type dashes for wifi

@brada4 sorry i dont get it ... in case u put dash - for a wifi i got some NAS, routers....

seems that goes nowhere here....

what about

but still ... its 24W and price is not that cheap....

brume2 nanopi ? Yes, they will be withouwt wireless.

doesnt look like a home-router? more like device that u attach to the laptop?

maybe its better to wait for

or maybe its okey to go with Banana Pi BPI-R4 ?

or this one seems the best? in terms of performance and maybe similar power consumption as both mentioed above?

Beelink EQ12 https://minixpc.com/blogs/review/beelink-eq12-pro-review-worlds-first-mini-pc-with-core-i3-n305-processor

@brada4 any view on that beelink eq12? thanks!

It seems mote towards desktop pc, no expansion slots, check protecli

@brada4 found also that one

Do you mean these are more expandable?

What exactly do you mean by expandable ram/drive or something else more important?

but no idea about power consumption ... and can u run OPNSense on these?

Thanks!

Mostly if you will be able to have more network ports

@brada4
but u can attach network ports via USB3?

Ridden by performance and power issues
