Roaming always have outage switch to other AP

I have 2 APs with OpenWrt, client is running wpa_supplicant.
In client side, set background scan with wpa_supplicant
bgscan = simple : 1 : -60 : 10
key management: wpa2 psk
when roaming to another AP, most of time there is around 1 second outage. I am using fping to check the connection.
From my understanding, during scan there should has impact with traffic, but the outage should no longer than 125ms, from ath10k driver.

let's see the configs from each of the devices...

Three things I would recommend based on your configuration:

  1. Set your country code on both devices. It should be set to your local country/region to ensure that you can get the maximum allowed performance based on local regulations.
  2. use non-overlapping channels. You've got both devices on channel 36 -- this can cause issues with roaming. This should be part of your general wifi tuning for basic roaming (I like this video as a good explainer of the process).
  3. Turn off 802.11r (and 802.11k) as they tend to cause additional complications and not all devices work well with these features enabled. Best option is to turn it off, then optimize based on #2, and see if that improves the overall performance of your system. Then, if you want to re-enable those features, you can do so knowing that you have a good baseline configuration.

Ok, thanks psherman, I will try this. Btw, what performance did you get based on your experience? Outage less than 100ms?

Figure out setup issues
