If I resize the partition 2 after installation and do a firmware upgrade with newer firmware, does openwrt retain size or I'll need to resize again?
Is there a way to keep the size across upgrades?

Each time you "sysupgrade" you'll lose any resize you did before.
Building your own buid, and changing the build parameters (default is 128 MB, you can change it to whatever you like).
