Recommendation for OpenWRT router with SFP

Hello, I am looking to buy a new router. My ISP provided this crappy locked down GPON router, but they do allow consumer provided devices. (They just require sending vendor code and some other stuff over to them and they register my own SFP module to authenticate with their network) So in that regard, it should be just fine.

My network connection is 1Gbps, upload and download. It is great but the ISP router is a doodoo. It won't even let me set my own DNS, super locked down. Optical cable that is connected to it is of type SC/APC simplex. Which I found some SFP modules for online. I do have an old WiFi router as AP so signal strength is not important to me.

From the toh.openwrt.org I am thinking about Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X SFP or MIKROTIK RB760iGS. Of course the first thing I am doing is flashing OpenWRT on it. Which one would you recommend? Feel free to recommend any other as well. Thank you in advance!

EX5601-T0 perhaps, or a Fujitsu S920 with a SFP PCIe add-on card ?

I am looking to put the router in a mini rack, so maybe the Fujitsu would be better, but it seems to be available only as a second hand.

At 30€/pcs (used) buy two, if you need redundancy.

If you want to spend (a lot) more, Dell Edge E42W 620, 660 or 680.

Another option: MikroTik RB5009UG+S+IN

Yeah, those are a bit too expensive for me, on European market those are over a double the price of the EdgeRouter X SFP

Check newest mikrotik E60iUGS , don't know if there is support for openwrt but on mikrotik ros works like a charm with gpon sfp module from huawei or dasan.

How about a Banana Pi BPi-R3?
It's a bit cheaper than MikroTik.

It uses an EcoNet EN7562CT.
As far as i know, there's no support in OpenWrt.

I kinda like this recommendation, it has lot more RAM and storage than last version, it is a shame it is not supported.

Fujitsu S920 with a SFP PCIe add-on card ?

I also like the idea of having a full on PC as a router, but I can't really find any with a good price (even refurbished) near me.

I did find second hand ER-X SFP for the price of E60iUGS though.. that seems nice, still haven't received a response though

There's a custom rack case available - Banana Pi BPI-R3/R4 19" rack system enclosure.

And that's where, not EU, I assume ?

I would 3D print my own, that is not that crucial

I am in EU, Czechia specifically.

Maybe some dell wyse 5070 extended fujitsu s940 ? Intel n5105 work awesome and with ddr4 You can put all on esxi/ proxmox . Or some nice used utm based on x86 to install some openwrt or pfsense/opnsense/ mikrotik /chr ? Rack one ? Try to find netgear wc7600. Sfp gpon module You can insert into switch if You have and use it as media converter.

pretty sure some of the ebay.de sellers would ship to CZ.

That's a business class wireless controller.
Even if you can find one below 200€, do you really think it's an appropriate recommendation?

Have few, wc7600 v1 is sandy bridge xeon with intel x540 i belive dual port 10gb and 1gb copper intel, openwrt and pfsense works nice, mine got for 8euro by piece brand new soms time ago, wc7600 v2 is atom c2558 rev b with quad gbit marvell nic, works with openwrt and others too, wc7500 is atom c2338 with quad nic marvell, works too. They have two slots for ddr3 ecc unbuffered dimm max 2*8gb. They float dirt cheap when you observe ebay etc. When you put opwenwrt flash ed usb drive they will run boot from it and you are ready to flash by dd to internal sata dom or usb dom for 7600 v1. I had like over 20 pieces and mounted by past years, to hotel and hostels with some wndap , they work like a charm. And yep enerprise gear. Or try to find similiar one.

I use mostly opnsesne and pfsense because i have trained settings for all, sometime mikrotik because it's cheap and qos is outstanding.

I guess I will save up a bit and get myself some small refurbished thinkcentre or something like that... then get a NIC SFP card with it. It would seem like the best option. @M10 you got me sold with the proxmox bit, that would be really nice.
