there is now the third service release but RAID still not working “out of the box”.

It is a big issue to enable direct IO?

no? The "master" branch had it for some time.

kernel: remove out of tree direct-io disable hack

If you wanted it, why didn't you ask on the mailing-list/chat/github to include it into the releases?
