R7800 or RT3200

My internet connection is 250 MBit/s download and 20 MBit/s upload and there are only two wireless devices ever connected to my network. No wired devices. Which of these two offers better extended ranges on 5GHz radio? The R7800 has external antennas while the RT3200 has only internal ones.

I have both R7800 and RT3200.
R7800 has much better wireless range.
(And it should well manage your connection's speeds.)

Just in general, independent if these two specific devices, internal antennas don't need to be worse than external ones. Especially with 802.11ax, internal antennas are more commonly found, as 8-12 antennas and their spatial orientation towards each other are hard to manage otherwise - and the results can be very good (both in terms of range and throughput over the range).

This range weakness is more specific to the rt3200, than the concept.

Well, if price is of any importance and you're in the US, you can pick up the RT3200 at Walmart for $55 new and the R7800 is usually $130-150. So, if you felt like doing some work, set up a mesh of RT3200s and save some money at the same time...

i have multiple of both and i think i prefer the R7800 more.
i got all of my R7800 second hand for 50ish euro. Really worth it.
The RT3200 might be more "future proof" as it had wifi6 but isnt as good at penetrating walls

Is that comparing WiFi 5 connections to both devices? Even with the external antennae, I would expect a WiFi 6 connection to the RT3200 to exceed the effective range of a WiFi 5 connection to the R7800 at 5GHz.
